Volunteers Needed

Want to Help in Other Ways?

  • School Liaison – BBBS is seeking a person who can interface with the 4 schools we provide our school based program through.  Effectively the program is administered at and on the school property after school ends, and once per week.  This person would work with school administrators and teachers at the schools (Escalante, Riverview, Needham, and  Park Elementary) to promote our service to at risk children.  The teachers, counselors, and administrators recommend kids to our program so it’s important to develop and maintain a relationship with them.  This would also include recruiting teachers, councilors, and administrators, at Durango High School where we recruit for youth mentors (High School kids who want to mentor  a child).
  • Association and Church Recruiting Ambassador – BBBS is seeking an individual willing to volunteer on outreach to local Associations such as the Rotary, Kiwanis, and Professional Associations as well as area churches, and places of worship to maintain contact with their membership, speak at gatherings and recruit via a monthly newsletter the virtues of volunteering as BBBS mentors, serving on a committee, or helping at an event.
  • Sports Buddies Committee – BBBS is forming a new program to recruit and enlist volunteers to serve mentors.  Possible mentor recruits would participate in a group outing where they get to interact with kids and staff in an informal outdoor sports or recreation activity such as boating, biking, skiing, kickball, climbing, hiking fishing and many more.  The purpose is to get those who might be interested in mentoring a child a glimpse of the fun and reward of mentoring.  This is a twice per month activity and BBBS is looking for volunteers to help develop the program, assemble the needed support and resources then bring Sports Buddies live to the community.
  • Media Liaison – Media Relations are critically important to any non profit and Big Brothers Big Sisters is no exception.  Keeping the public informed of the organization, upcoming events on our marketing calendar, new mentor volunteers, and any newsworthy activities would be a part of the Liaison’s focus.  A knowledge and ability to write, edit, and publish press releases, script and create storyboards for tv appearances, and distribute the final product through online and offline medias is helpful.
  • Big Swing Committee – The Big Swing is BBBS’ annual golf tournament.  Volunteers are needed to secure hole sponsors, soliciting merchants for goody bags and award certificates for winners, work the day of the event hosting golfers, signing them up, selling mulligans and interacting with our media liaison to publicize the event.
  • Bowl for Kids Sake Committee – The BFKS is Big Brothers Big Sisters largest event annually.  The tournament format pits industries (real estate, healthcare, associations, hospitality, restaurants) in a head to head competition for best team and individual scores, as well as a peer to peer competition for the most funds raised to help us help more kids.  We need people who can help with all aspects of this event.  If you are talented at speaking with potential sponsors, signing up teams, or just want to work the day of the event recording scores, mc’ing, or helping us with the set up, we’d welcome you to our committee.
  • Sponsors Liaison – Corporate sponsors, merchants and small business partners are a big part of any organizations ongoing vitality.  BBBS is seeking individuals to work on a sponsor committee.  The committee will meet with these important partners, present materials and information about how Big Brothers Big Sisters is a good investment and an important part of their culture that can help them from a community relations perspective.
  • Board of Directors – BBBS is currently seeking board members.  Qualifications are:
  • A Love of children
  • Skills and Expertise
  • Willing to commit to the advancement of BBBS
  • Connections or a willingness to connect
  • Web Development – Someone to work in Wordpress making additions, changes. This (content management system) doesn’t require code knowledge, but someone who knows WordPress to some extent.  Time requirement is minimal a few hours per wee.
  • Network for Good Software Guru – Data mining from our donor management tool.  This is ongoing  There would be ad hoc types of requests to go into the data (spreadsheet skills needed) and create segments so we can market. This person would probably be on the fund development committee.
  • Email Marketing and Content Creation – This one is for a born writer.  Someone that enjoys putting together the feel good updates to our donor base, helps message to our alumni, and works directly with me to make sure that our messaging is consistent and compelling.  This would be an hour or two per week.
